About and data sources
Distortion World collects results and team sheets from Pokémon VGC tournaments and turns them into usage stats, tier lists, EV spreads, teams and player results, by game and by regulation. Every page is computed from one database when the site is built, so a number on a page is a count over the tournaments the site holds, not an estimate.
Usage, tier lists and spreads count Masters Division teams. A team sheet is the team as its tournament or its player published it: where a source gives species only, the site counts the species and shows no moves or spreads for it, and where only an open team sheet exists, EVs are not shown, because open sheets do not carry them.
Data sources
Tournaments and teams
- rk9.gg
- Rosters, standings, dates and team lists for Play! Pokémon events, and the natures on Pokémon Champions team lists.
- Victory Road
- The season calendar that gives each event its date and format, the regulation history the site's format windows follow, and standings and open team sheets for events that publish them nowhere else: the Asian majors, the Japan Championships and the online challenges.
- Limitless
- Standings and team lists for open online Pokémon Champions events.
- VGCPastes
- The community spreadsheet of team pastes players shared, matched to results by tournament and player. Where it holds a full paste, a set's EVs, IVs and nature come from it; open team sheets carry none of those.
- Pokémon.com
- The Play! Pokémon team pages for the 2014 to 2016 World Championships and national championships.
- Nimbasa City Post
- Top-cut teams of the VGC circuit, as species and held stone, with a full paste where the post links one. It is the main source for the 2014 to 2016 seasons.
- Poképaste and VRPastes
- The paste sites the sources above link to (pokepast.es and vrpastes.com). A linked paste is read for the set it holds.
Players
- Liquipedia
- Player social links from Liquipedia’s Pokémon wiki, tied to our players through shared tournament results. Liquipedia’s content is licensed CC-BY-SA 3.0.
- Victory Road and VGCPastes
- The X handle beside a player's name on Victory Road's standings, and the author of the tweet or the channel of the video a VGCPastes row links. A video's channel is read through YouTube's oEmbed endpoint.
- Players' own X profiles
- The website a player lists on their X profile, when it is a YouTube or Twitch channel. Profiles are read through the FxTwitter API, never x.com itself.
Pokémon reference data
- PokéAPI
- Pokémon, move, item and ability entries, adopted into the site's own reference store by hand. Pages are built from that store and never fetch from PokéAPI.
- Bulbapedia
- Base stats and learnsets per game, the Pokémon Champions roster and regulation set dates, and the move changes Champions made.
- Serebii
- Champions dex pages where PokéAPI has a gap, and the Ranked Battle page's list of regulation sets.
- Smogon and Pokémon Showdown
- Pokémon Showdown's data (@pkmn/dex) seeds the damage calculator's move mechanics and species weights, and the calculator's engine follows Smogon's damage calculator and is tested against its results.
Sprites and art
- Bulbagarden Archives
- Party icons (the small menu sprites) and the role icons.
- PokéAPI sprites
- Pokémon HOME renders and official artwork.
- Serebii
- The Poké Ball sprites the tier badges use, and the Tera type icons.
- Project Pokémon
- Party icons where the Bulbagarden series has none.
